DIAGNOSTICS : ECU : ENGINE MANAGEMENT
DIAGNOSTICS is the term used for electronic component & system fault finding.
Many garages and mechanics aren't willing to delve into the diagnostic side of vehicle repair & maintenance. Not only because it takes a lot of training to understand how vehicle electronics work but there is also the financial investment required.
CAR-FIX and it's mechanics see diagnostics as a priority and have invested heavily in state of the art diagnostic equipment so that we are able to diagnose and repair any faults we find. We also realise that the modern motor vehicle will require this technical know-how in order for it to function effectively.
The ECU (Electronic Control Unit) receives it's information from various sensors around the vehicle to enable it to run smoothly and efficiently. The ECU uses the information from these sensors to make adjustments to the car whether it be adjusting the fuel or changing the ignition timing. If your vehicle develops a fault it could be anyone of these sensors like the engine temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor or even the oxygen sensor but without the appropriate equipment or training we could not diagnose these faults.
Some garages will tell you that you don't need diagnostics as the car will show the fault on the dashboard warning light system (Malfunction Indication Lamp). That is true but to effectively diagnose and rectify the fault you need to access the ECU and to find the "trouble code". Even if you have the trouble code this will only point you in the right direction as it won't tell you what the problem actually is, it is then up to the expert mechanic to use his diagnostic equipment and experience to find the faulty component.
CAR-FIX are regularly updating their Diagnostic Software to keep up with new vehicles and with all the investment & training can offer customers diagnostics at a level equivalent to those at a dealership.
